Diabetes now at Play Time

Well it finally happened...Diabetes has entered into our barbie world. Yesterday afternoon all of "the girls"(Kylie & Cara) barbies developed type 1 diabetes. The barbies have started their strict life style change in amazingly good spirits lol. "The girls" were sending them to the doctors, giving them insulin shots and even remembering to check the barbies blood sugar at meal times. It was very cute to listen too, but a little sad that diabetes is such a major part of all of our lives that is has found it's way into the kids play time too. I do know that play is a great therapy for kids and maybe it will help Cara with dealing with all the changes in her life.

Does anyone know if Mattel has made "diabetes Barbie or Ken"? Cara would love one. If not I may contact them to share my ideas?

Side note: our Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes is this Sunday the 14th and I'm praying for good weather!! and a wonderful time!! The We CARA Lot team is 40 walkers strong and still collecting donations http://jdrfca.donordrive.com/team/wecaralot

Hi Nicole! Just found your blog- welcome to the wonderful world of diabetes! My little girl was diagnosed just over a year ago- a month before her 3rd birthday. Jada's favorite baby doll is sometimes :) diabetic and Jada has an old meter that she uses as her baby's "blood sugar" (that's what she calls it). Play therapy is definitely a good thing! I've not seen any toys geared towards diabetics at this point- perhaps others have.
Good to have you in the blogging community! Let us know what we can do for you!
