THE SWEET SPOT

The sweet spot, for Cara right now that would be her arms, she is just stuck on those little, thin tiny arms of hers.

Cara receives 4 shots of insulin a day and for each shot we try to rotate the areas the shots are given to her. We have 4 places to inject her insulin, her upper arms, her thighs, her tush (the fatty upper part of the bum, I call it my second bum :) and her belly. Well, we have not been able to talk Cara into using her belly for injections yet, but we are trying. She loves looking at all the pictures of the BRAVE little girls (especially Olivia who just started receiving her shots in her belly and Alivia who has a great picture of her pump site on her tummy) but she still will not let us go near her belly with the pen.

The "pen" is what we use to inject Cara's insulin with, see below :)

So her shots are always in her upper arm, tush and or thighs. But every once and a while she gets stuck on an injection spot I call it "THE SWEET SPOT". She only wants her insulin given to her in that one area and if we insist (and we do insist) that she do a different spot she freaks out. If we do not rotate spots she will get hard, ball like tissue forming under her skin, when these form we call them her "muscles" because that is really what it looks like....little muscles.

For a while her sweet spot was her tush every shot she fought us if it was not her tush. She would run away from us.... and she is fast, lie face down on the floor with her arms tucked in and her legs straight out as stiff as a board yelling "my tush, my tush". But now for no reason she has switched the sweet spot up on us. Now it is her arms and you can really see her "muscles" when they form in that area because her arms are so tiny and thin.I'm not sure if it is a control thing or if different spots hurt a little less or more then others. I'm sure that she would love to be able to control just one tiny bit of what is going on with her and her body which diabetes has taken total control of but we must rotate spots.

So the fight continues..... whenever it is not time for the sweet spot.

Ohhhh, my Emma is the exact same way! For some reason she just gets stuck on one spot. After I continually force her to try a new one she starts to like it and then gets stuck on that one!

Actually, we've never tried her tummy. She is sooo skinny and has no fat there and the nurse advised waiting until she gains some more weight. Fine by me! I don't have the guts to stick her there yet!
