If you want to make this fun take a second and think, what could nicole's little secret be?
Day 10, Post Secret. You know the beloved PostSecret blog? Today’s prompt is to write down a secret that …really isn’t a secret.
Ok so you think you know what I'm about to say right?
well here it is...
I
HATE
THE
WORD
DIABETES!!
That's right, I HATE the word diabetes almost as much as I HATE the disease it refers to. Now, I know that may not be a big secret to some of you but I just needed to get that out.
I think that the term diabetes causes more confusion and spreads more misconception about type 1, type 1.5 and type 2 diabetes. Did you notice I did not mention gestational diabetes? People USUALLY don't lump gestational diabetes into the term diabetes. The actual full and right name is used and therefore actual facts are shared, listened to and understood.
I think anytime that you don't clearly define or use the proper full name of a disease or any topic that you are discussing for that matter, you are going to cause people to assume things and facts fly right out the window.
Here are some other post that I have blogged about this topic:
REVAMP, RENAME OR STAY THE SAME...WHAT TO DO ABOUT TYPE 1 DIABETES
WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THE NAME DROPPING

Fist pump in the air to you Nicole! I really hate this part about the name, too. I find myself talking to myself in my head everytime I see it waving out there without the proper attachment. It's naked. Hard on the eyes. Brusk. Wrap it up in it's meaning, already!!!!!
WooHoo!!! Nice post
I totally agree with everything you said. The word I hate most is DIABETIC. I don't ever call my son a diabetic. I use a little extra air to say he.. has.. di.a.be.tes. Even when my bronchitis or asthma makes that difficult. ;-) That's just me.
Yep, I hate it too. I just wish it had a totally different name.
